What The Spirit Of Christmas Means To Me

Christmas brings me much excitement and joy in reuniting with my best friend Carol and her family. (I live in Arizona and she lives in Florida, but we have been friends since second grade). Though I can not be with my biological family, I feel blessed that there is a family for me in Florida that loves me, and always welcomes me. I enjoy traveling to see them on the other side of the country, catching up, sharing treats, laughter, giving and receiving presents, decorating the Christmas tree, playing games, and being surrounded by the people I love and care for. The Christmas spirit is about embracing close relationships and appreciating what I have.

Also, the Christmas spirit is about sharing and giving joy to others. It does not have to be presents, but rather a sincerity that human beings share with one another; Benevolence, mercy, generosity, merriness, love. Spending time at a nursing home, orphanage, homeless shelter changes other people's days into a positive one. By helping those around us who would enjoy it, it brings me a sense of fulfillment as I practice my values through my deeds.

Finally, Christmas is a time to reflect on myself as the year comes to an end, forgive others, and prepare for a new start. I am always looking to develop and grow as an individual. The Christmas season allows me to look back at myself and help me become a better person through my deeds to others.
